It may not be a big secret and it may come as no surprise to some, but the up-till-now monthly release schedule for the popular Trojan Box Set series is being put to one side...

A couple of weeks ago, I asked Gav what would be happening with them in the light of there being none advertised on the 2006 release schedule yet - rather than re-wording his remarks and presenting them as my own, here's his verbatim response:

"...they (Box Sets) aren't being put into a retirement home just yet, more just a case of giving them a few well deserved breaks to recharge their batteries. It looks like they will be quarterly now, rather than monthly. Everyone is fully aware of the number that have been put out and, rather than cheapen the brand by bringing out inferior releases, more time will be spent on them to ensure that each is a worthy addition to the series. I'm sure everyone will appreciate that. I know I do."

Very well put and, though some may claim that the Box Sets have already run their course, the results of the monthly polls suggest otherwise - there's plenty of life in the concept yet, 8 out of the 9 monthly polls this year have been won by a Box Set - the exception was the Dennis Brown "Money In My Pocket" collection from the Spring.

So the concept takes a rest while on a "high" of popularity - thanks for supporting these and the polls.

Any Qs you have on this - feel free to post in this topic and I suspect "someone" from "upstairs" will be able to answer it Wink

At least we've got Zapatoo's Box Set trivia (the sequel) to look forward to Very Happy

I'm a sucker for that sort of stuff, especially when it's a subject that I'm interested in Exclamation

...A-ha - good idea maybe, Trev Smile - I meant to get the Immediate Box Set earlier this year, but funds didn't allow it - I'll see if it's in a post-Christmas sale anywhere.

...Although I don't mind early Rap and liked some of Sugarhill's output (and have physically picked this up in a shop a while ago), I'd only buy this if it was going for 5 or 6.
