I've no objection to the "well known" but wouldn't mind some different "well knowns" - I always find Jim's left field tunes interesting at the very least and thoroughly enjoyable at the very most.
I can see your point. Without having talked to Jim about it, I'm under the impression he let's his two sidekicks, have carte blanche on playing the rarities, or lesser known tracks, while his selections, by and large, are aimed at those less knowledgeable.

I imagine, if the occasion arose, he'd rinse a 45 or 50, that most of us, hadn't heard for ages, or at all.....He seems to be well versed.

But again, I've never met the man, and only know him, through y'alls posts.... Wink

He certainly has an outre selecting mind (sometimes)...but even he drew the line at playing this one at one RSG! session:

Clive & Gloria's CHANGE OF PLAN - Georgie Fame's Blue Flames on backing, probably Georgie on Hammond duties (it's also the earliest I have on the R&B label)

Next session this Friday (21-April)

Looking forward to it - Pete and I have dug out some nice pieces for the "Martin Roots Tribute" section...

Unlikely Confused

Casualeers ~ DANCE DANCE DANCE

I love this one and picked it up in 1975 on a Pye Disco Demand reissue.

There was also a Disco update by Liquid Smoke in about '75 - came out in the UK on Pye International:

Pete will be along with the full list at some point, so in the meantime here are the tunes I played at last night’s Reggae Steady Go! Session at the Fox & Hounds - 4 mini-sessions, as usual going tune-for-tune with Pete. Jim doing his thing…tunes marked *** were the "Martin Weller Tribute" tunes
Techniques ~ WHAT AM I TO DO? (JA blank)
Dynamic Boys ~ SHOCK ATTACK (Dynamic blank/pre)
    Diamonds ~ EVERYDAY TOMORROW (Camel)
Clarendonians ~ YOU WON’T SEE ME (Coxsone R)
Charlie Boy ~ FUNKY STRIP (Trojan)
Sound Dimension ~ JAMAICA UNDERGROUND (Bamboo)
    Crystalites ~ MUSICAL MADNESS (Songbird)
King Iwah ~ GIVE ME POWER #2 (Upsetter)
Glen Brown ~ SKA DIAP (Studio 1 R)
Buster’s All Stars ~ ROCKSTEADY (blank)
Dennis Alcapone ~ HOME VERSION (Banana)
Gregory Isaacs ~ LOVE IS OVERDUE (Attack)
Ta-Teacher’s Love ~ ROOTS MAN (Burning Sounds) ***
Mighty Diamonds ~ JAILHOUSE (Well Charge) ***
Prince Jazzbo ~ EVERY NIGGA IS A WINNER (Live & Love) ***
Pablo Gad ~ BLOODSUCKERS (Burning Sounds) ***
Rod Taylor ~ ETHIOPIAN KINGS (Archive Recordings R) ***
    Clarendonians ~ I’M SORRY (blank)
Winston Groovy ~ PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME CRY (Torpedo)
Inspirations ~ YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN (Upsetter)
Ronald Wilson & Skatalites ~ LONELY MAN (Giant R)
Jackie Opel ~ THE LORD IS WITH ME (Ska Beat)
    Maytals ~ 54-46 (THAT’S MY NUMBER) (Trojan)
Phyllis Dillon ~ THING OF THE PAST (Trojan)
I even managed to fulfil a request! (54-46) and we were thanked by several people (didn’t know all of them)...makes it worthwhile - a shame we had to finish at 11:00p.m. just when the place had filled up again!

Wow. That's a heavyweight, selection! Glad to see Jim rinsed some different artists! Can't wait to hear the Cats.....It's been ages, since I've heard that, on 45.....

Excited about that Inspirations tune, too.....Looks like a split decision, again.....I'll give the verdict, Friday....On me day off. Very Happy

A shame you lot, can't go 'til closing. At Pressure Drop RVA, the punters came in waves......The early bird crowd, at 2100, then a lull around 2200. Around 2300, it'd pick up again, & the place would be a "sweat shop", of writhing bodies, booze freely flowing. More or less. There were a few instances, of us selecting for the staff, essentially. Rolling Eyes Laughing

It seems that the place is normally busier in the later part of the evening, just when we have to stop...

Idea Maybe the later crowd like the pub/beer, but can't stand the music, so they come in knowing that the (godforsaken) music will soon be over Exclamation
