Mrs Chalk and I went to the Tower of London yesterday to see the 'river of blood':

Very impressive and very poignant. They are planting 888,246 ceramic poppies in the Tower’s moat to represent a river of blood, in memory of each British military fatality during the First World War. The display is on until 11th November. Well worth a visit.

Seemed appropriate.

I eventually went on the 8-Nov (2014) - the place was packed!

...so after having a look, a ponder and taking a few photos, I wandered over to Berwick Street and took in the record shops Wink

How'd this get by me? Confused

Good for those of you, that have made a point, to go to things like this. It helps keep the memory alive, so something stupid like this, never happens again.

Folks over here, take WWI for granted. WWII for that matter. Heck, a few buildings in NYC get knocked down, by airplanes, and people shite their pants....Not that 3,000 people dying that day, ain't terrible. The point I'm trying to make, is that war is horrible stuff.

I think wars should be settled on the pitch, and in the terraces. Whoever fields the best football teams, and supporters, wins the war. Wink

We bought one of the poppies when the installation was taken down; £25 IIRC. It's strategically placed in a corner of the back garden, visible from most aspects. A constant reminder of others' sacrifices for our today.
