Not a lot by them, but Rupert Cunningham has just confirmed that they were himself, Bobby Davis, Jackie Paris and Dave Barker, and occasionally Jimmy James.

Thanks Andy. And confirming that Jackie Paris was in the UK and recording here in the early `70s - I wonder what other sides he's appeared on?

BTW, I guess this would explain the New Religion credit on ACK 526.

Absolutely, brilliant, Andy! Very Happy Very Happy

New Religion, was a group, I found out about, after discovering the wonderful sounds, of Burning Spear. Those 45's, are hard enough, to come by, in the UK, but in the States......Little, to no chance!

Then again, eBay, etc. offer a chance, I suppose..... Smile

A great sound, all round, to my ears! Blue Davis, was all over the place, wasn't he? Smile

He must have recorded dozens of tracks without his name on them.

Indeed. And, it annoys me, as he's very deserving, of credit! Loads of other, singers, too!
Glad Rupert shed some light, on this! And, confirmed things! Wink

His 'Return Your Love' on Banana is particularly good - I've been searching for one for years.

I think I've asked this before, but Bobby had an album out on the King Jam label ('Satisfaction') which appeared in certain Berwick Street record shops about ten years ago. I didn't know at the time whether it was a repress of an album that came out in the `70s or `80s, or a batch of unsold stock, and I never ended up buying it (the sleeve was kind of embossed, so unusual for that era). The thing now sells for 50/60 Shocked

Bobby on lead vocals? Strange - I never really liked this, but listening to it now, I'm enjoying it!

I've been a fan of that tune, for over 30 years now, and have yet to hear a version of it, I didn't like.

This is no exception. One I'll add, to the wants list! Ta very much, Andy! Cool Cool

Thanks Andy Smile

A little bit of research suggests that Bobby Davis was actually Aaron Davis - so Aaron "Bobby" ""Blue" Davis.

Although IN THE BEAUTIFUL CARIBBEAN is in my playout box, I'd primarily put it in there for the corker of a B side (Im & David) BLACK IS BLACK:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rZ-1qmdxtg

...I'd forgotten how nice ITBC is (shades of ROME in there) so I have a choice of either or both sides Cool

I remember the play that the A side was about, but I don't think I ever saw it, probably wouldn't have been allowed to (the TV was my bastard stepfather's "territory"):

Rupert's now advised me that New Religion became Jon Cunoo:

Never heard that version before and at the moment, I don't care much for it.

Not a patch on the 4 Tops IMHO, which I remember buying from the small record bar at the back in Owen's the newsagent in Cleveleys (near Blackpool).

FWIW, it sounds like Randy's/Impact All Stars on duty - compare and contrast with the Heptones' SOUL SISTER:

I had no idea. Always figured, it was a completely different set of people. A great adaptation, of the Mickey & Silvia classic.

Ta, Andy! Rupert's a fountain, of knowledge, it seems! Very Happy

Pleasing enough once it gets going, but I can see why I didn't buy it 'pon release - a) not Studio 1 and b) a bit too "bouncy" for my ears.

I've just noticed this section!!! Packed with info!!!

That New Religion tune as always been a favourite of mine. It was the theme tune for a BBC play by the same name.

Keep up the good works.

Take care, all the very best

That play is "credited" on the record - I don't recall if I ever saw it on TV at the time, although I remember there was a bit of a "buzz" about it being on.
