Swamp Dog is another one, Timmy Thomas, George McCrae. Some great singers on TK. I know I have left out a few more greats from the southern states!!!

I agree on those Ray, and plenty more, Gwen McCrae being one...which reminds me that I have this one (and a couple of others) in my basket over at Juno, so I think I'll wander over and place the order...

Duly done - with luck I'll have it sometime on Saturday, so not much more than 36 hours.

Yes Gwen McCrae, and Betty Wright, I think she was married to the early reggae DJ...can't think of his name - around the time of King Stitt!

Dear JJ,

I have been listening to reggae music for a long long time. And when it comes to sound quality - what standard are you using - Studio One! Joe Gibbs! Trojan! VP! The only label that spent serious money on mastering was Blood and Fire - and I know for a fact that a lot of time - they would rather include a track than exclude it on the basis of sound quality.

When it comes to the actual music on the CD. That is totally subjective. There are loads and loads of albums that have been dismissed out of hand at the time of the release - and now those very same albums are the 'Collectors Items'. For me its always good to see an album released by an artist that I know nothing about!
All the very best

Hi Ray,

As far as sound quality goes - what i mean is that Roy has been reissuing several of his dub albums with alot of extra tracks over the last 10 years or so & many of them have suffered from abysmal sound quality - I don't know if it is caused by the source material, the mastering , or something else but they sound either really 'screechy' or muffled.
When I listened to the samples for the Pitter CD I could hear some similar problems with the sound quality.
As these releases are not available in my country I only have the soundies to go by & my experience with his dub album CD reissues.

These sound issues only seem to be on his later CD reissues & mostly on the bonus material.
Nothing wrong with his earlier CD issues as far as I recall ( I have about 25 of them)

Hope that makes sense of what I meant?

cheers
j j

Dear JJ,

When it comes to soul, everyone I like nobody else seems to like them!!!

Allen Toussaint, Lee Dorsey, Latimore, Little Beaver, Roy C.

But all of them have big hits - so I'm not alone!

Someone was telling me something about odd about Roy C, that he didn't
write 'Shotgun Wedding' or something like that.

Take care, all the very best
Ray

I'm guessing this post was for someone else?? Confused

I deciphered, that, jj. I think the sound issues, stem from the programs currently being used, today. The Pro Tools I remember, from 20 years ago, sounds much, much, much better, to my ears, than what I've been hearing, within, the last, 10 years.
