Burning Sounds 2 for 1.

Maybe Al's best albums?

I probably don't have enough Al Campbell.

I don't mind Al, but he's not one of my favourites.

Same here. But he always seems to have had a dedicated following, and his albums in particular (from any era) always seem to attract decent coin. His first two (i.e. what's on this upcoming CD) have always eluded me. The first was reissued on the Phil Pratt imprint (on Sunshot initially) but sellers still seem to demand the same money for it.

I could well go for this one anyways.

I think it's something to do with his voice - it somehow seems just right for its musical style...

Those are excellent mark. I had been watching a copy of Showcase LP on Ebay,
it went past my budget very early on though!
At least I have the three Onlyroots 7"s from the LP Smile

I got the Gee Baby/No More Running CD today. I checked the tracks with Lossles Audio Checker and the results detect "upscaling" suggesting that these are sourced from mp3. Although the sound is nothing to write home about, as with the original press albums I believe and other CDs in this series, it really isn't too bad.

Another disappointment is that the sleeve notes are the same as the previous Al Campbell twofer Diamonds/Rainy Days. I find that the usual career overview sleeve notes a bit disappointing, and would appreciate a more studied overview of the actual albums in question.

I agree, Andy - while some info about the artist is interesting (so long as it isn't regurgitated text), I like to know at least a bit about the tracks, with the year being an absolute minimum.

Just a final comment on this regarding the mp3 source. I checked the other two Burning Sounds CDs I have [Jimmy Riley and the Maytones] and they came up as clean, and not from a lossy source.

So the three releases I have that are from mp3 source are all Phill Pratt productions.
