I see Edwin Hawkins has just passed:

Not a huge favourite of mine as I dislike anything remotely god bothering, but in Reggae terms Norman T Washington's cover of 'Happy Day' was pretty good.

Again, not a huge fan, but one bona fide classic single.

Oh NOT Happy Day!

Not a gospel fan myself, but always loved the hit - never got the tune at the time or at all until on a compilation CD in the mid-90s and then the single on a French (I think) Buddah from a charity shop in mid 2010.

I also have the Conroy Cannon Mission version on a Pama single.

RIP Edwin Hawkins.

The Edwin Hawkins Singers song was the first black gospel record i ever heard back in the early 1970's.

Completely agree with Andy on 'Oh Happy Day' being a bona fine classic.

R.I.P. Edwin Hawkins
