It's from Hindu religion/mythology, Baldy, and refers to the gods when they take human or animal or, indeed, any physical form. Vishnu was/is supposed to have taken particular advantage of this useful facility available to the deities.

Thanks for that guys.

Now I'm even more in the dark though - as to why this word would be above my name in my profile

I promise that I cannot take animal form ('cept when I'm drunk and snoring of course).

Baldy.

Some forums allow pictures of yourself (or whatever) to be shown alongside your posts, e.g. www.raresoulforum.co.uk - I've never bothered trying to figure out how to put something up on that site and I don't think the option is there on this one Confused

I was going to ask about the lack of avatars. It's a shame we don't have them here, I liike the fact you can change your avatar regularly to suit your mood, and sometimes they can also be a real talking point.

I have this image which I made on the Bowie forums where I'm a member Cool

EDIT: spelling

Welcome to the forum SP Smile - I haven't needed to do this.

The only thing I can suggest is to open up your picture in (say) Paint, go to <Image>, then <Attributes> and adjust the Width and Height values...

You can also crop the image and save as a smaller visible size.

I don't know if this will work though. Maybe a product with more features than Paint can do better...

Bringing this back from the dead. Paint can definitely do it, and paint.net is a great freeware that has more features than MS paint.
