So it's arrived.

Sound quality seems pretty good, sleeve notes amount to not much more than a brief bio and there is no producer or year info.

As I'm neither a big fan of Maxie's voice or his choice of material, this will fill a few gaps.

...but how do I know when he voiced WATCH THIS SOUND (which is on the same rhythm as the Uniques 1968 version? ...or SOMEONE ELSE WILL TAKE MY PLACE (on a vaguely fmiliar rhythm)

While there are some good cover versions on there (RAINBOW COUNTRY and MELLOW MOOD), MISTY BLUE doesn't work and NOBODY'S CHILD, which I know from the "Ready Or Not..." L.P., is a bit of a naff song anyway.

...and STICK BY ME doesn't have the uplifting vocal that John Holt laid on it.

etc.

Overall, happy to have it, but it'll be an album to pick tunes out of for me, rather than sit and listen to it all the way through.

Very Happy

Pretty much, Pete, although believe the graphic is seen as an insult in Greece(???), I think.

There are some historical connotations associated with that hand sign, but I can't remember off hand. I do know they used that gesture in "The Prisoner" when they would "be seeing you". There was some kind of cult, or summat from ancient Greece that used that gesture....I think. Confused

Yes, Steve, some goodies, some clunkers and a few that are only relieved by a god rhythm.

Plenty of Marley covers - anyone know what album they came from - or were they recorded at odd times over several years?

Looks like quite a bit of duplication here with other Maxie CDs I have.

I remember buying one of his (I think it might have been the CD reissue on Dynamic of 'Let The Power Fall On I') where the bonus tracks were all digital lick-overs of some of his earlier tunes. I hadn't expected that!

The dates should all be listed in one of the "Bob Marley" box sets that Trojan released..... javascript:emoticon('Wink')

Good spot, Seth.

They are.

All 2 of them - and I'm not certain that DON'T ROCK MY BOAT (on the "Bob marley Covers" box set) isn't a later re-work than the one on this "Wet dream" collecton anyway Confused

Interesting. I'm tempted to email the Not Bad folks, to see if they'd be willing to share any info pertaining to these "Reggae" releases of theirs...... Smile

I confidently predict that even if you do get a reply, it will be little more than wishy-washy excuses and no useful information.
