I have this and one other of theirs on Magnet...(The Soldier)... Any more out there?

3pan1/Rolf/Rox suggests that Willie Francis is the lead vocalist. Here's the other G. McT track - The Soldier:

One wonders where the "G. McT" handle comes from...I don't have my database to hand to check if "Willie Francis" isn't a real name or whether "G. McT" features in my database against any person.

Trouble is, I can't get the name "Geock (Jock) McTavish" out of my mind! Very Happy

Here's two Willie(Winston) Francis, for comparison:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuSpl5c5soo
"Poor Boy"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj1BsbhBCE4
"Cool You Iron"

The latter is on Magnet, so perhaps he "moonlighted" under an alias! Wink

Heck, let's have another......I'm really fond of Mr.Francis' output, especially this cover of the Jim Reeves classic:

Good point. Here's the Mopeds:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzX0NWaqn1M

Here's the Aggressors:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXPXzlDBEto

Sounds by both "bands", sound the same, or close, at the least. There's some information about the Mopeds in an old CD I have, from Lagoon. Laurel Aitken used the Mopeds on quite a few of his mid-60's offerings. I don't have the CD to hand, but I think they were a studio group, made up, of uni students, or summat.

Now, I've read that some think the Aggressors were nothing more, than a bunch of session players, as well. So the Mopeds, could also be the Aggressors.

In fact, the Liquidators LP "Super Reggae", is essentially the Aggressors LP, with a few alterations, to be aimed at a US audience!

https://www.discogs.com/Liquidators-Super-Reggae/release/5467552

FWIW, there was a UK group/band called the Invaders, whose sound, is quite similar, as well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knLUJhPVEpc

Here's that Lagoon CD:

https://www.discogs.com/Various-The-History-Of-Ska-Blue-Beat-Reggae-Vol1/release/6760251

IIRC, I think most of the bands on this set, sounded similar. It's been ages since I last gave it a rinse, though....

There's also a volume 2, out there:

http://www.allmusic.com/album/history-of-ska-blue-beat-reggae-vol-2-mw0000078575

Smile

Monty Neysmith of The Pyramids/Symarip has just confirmed to me that they weren't The Mopeds or The Aggressors. Seth's theory of them being session men does seem very likely.

Thanks for that, Andy. It's always nice, to shorten lists, with various artists/bands, and the theories, I associate, with them. Seeing as Monty and the boys, were very active 50 years ago, I have wondered if it was the Bees/Bed Bugs/Pyramids, on more, than a few tunes. Smile

You might have warned me to put my "clunker shields" up, Andy!!!

"McBean Scot" would do well to remain anonymous, IMHO!

"McBean Scot"=The Son of Nat Cole? Razz

Honestly, Domino Johnson, is the first name, that springs to mind, singing with the Champions. McBean, is a far cry, from Domino's ability, though. Tony, is the only other name, I am aware of, having done work, with the Champions. Tony being, Tony King. The Champions, being another name for the Rudies, or an amalgamation. Smile

I wonder if McBean, was a member of the Rudies? Confused

Here's a new find (I believe). Locksley has just advised me that The 'Jiving Juniors' on 'Stay' are actually Jackie Robinson and George Dekker, with Carl Lewison on lead vocals.

Yes, I thought there were two Jamaican music groups, that used that moniker. Nothing earth shattering, but not bad, either....."Stay" clearly aimed at a "crossover" market, it seems. Ta, Andy! Smile

Incredible how one can make certain assumptions about certain releases: I'd always thought of this as being by a later reincarnation of the JJ's, possibly with Claude Sang, and it being commercial given the major label. I've seen this one many times and passed them up.

I've not listened to the clips yet mind.

Good points, Marc. You could say, there were three Jamaican groups, that used that name, but, with Sang and Harriott being co-founders, of one, then Sang bringing the group back, without Harriott.....Would this, or would this not, be considered a different group, entirely? Smile
