In terms of JA music, there have been a few, some on Sunrise Records

Story Of Blue Beat - The Best In Ska 1960
Story Of Blue Beat - The Best In Ska 1961 Pt. 1
Story Of Blue Beat - The Best In Ska 1961 Pt. 2
Story Of Blue Beat - The Best In Ska 1962 Pt. 1
Story Of Blue Beat - The Best In Ska 1962 Pt. 2
Story Of Blue Beat - The Best In Ska 1962 Pt. 3
Jamaican Chart Hits Of 1958 & 1959 (Looking Back)
Jamaican Chart Hits Of 1960 (Easy Snapping)
Jamaican Chart Hits Of 1961 (Oh Carolina!)
Jamaican Chart Hits Of 1962 (Forward March)
Down Beat Shuffle - The Birth Of A Legend

...another label also covered the same Blue Beat era, though I don't remember which.

Also linked are those "pre-Reggae" albums featuring mostly US R&B tunes, apparently much-loved in JA:

Jumping The Shuffle Blues (Fantastic Voyage)
Jump Blues Strictly For You (Fantastic Voyage) - effectively volume 2 of the above
Jump Blues Jamaica Way (Fantastic Voyage) - volume 3

I can recommend any/all of the above - if you want to know about the earliest Blue beat singles, those are there, although some of the tracks leave "a little to be desired"

The others mentioned will take you on a wonderful journey through the 40s and 50s there are really some stonking tunes, which certainly help to understand how Ska got a footing.

There was me thinking (as a lad) that the original of KANSAS CITY was by the Beatles, only to discover years later that it was actually Wilbert Harrison (1959) and then to find out several years ago that it was actually by Little Willie Littlefield (1952)

That's on "Jumping The Shuffle Blues"

There are more such compilations, but that's all that spring to mind just now.

One Day/Not Now Music are the other label that released a slew of Blue Beat Records compilations.....Sound quality on all is top notch, by and large....Liner notes are sparse, whereas with Ace, you get a nice thick booklet, chocked full of information, photo's, etc.....IIRC.... Rolling Eyes Wink

The One Day/Not Now sets are much cheaper, if you're after nothing more than the first 125 singles, in chronological order.... Smile

I would just add the "BACK BEAT" 3CD of 1962 Island Records. Also from One Day Music.

In all fairness, it is a rather nice compilation.....I'm actually embarrassed I forgot about it, as it filled quite a few gaps for me! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Most of them are working out to be about S20 AUD which to be honest is about what I would generally purchase a cd for - but I have a list at large as my arm of cd's I want ( need ) they do turn up from time to time on ebay for half price which is when I grab them
