Well - I just tried to mass e-mail you all just now, but got an error message when I hit the <Send> button ("too many recipients") - aaahh! such is the way of technology Wink Confused

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you members of this forum and your nearest and dearest all the very best for Christmas and good health and happiness for the upcoming year. Smile

I'd also like to thank you for your support in the Trojan forum, it's been a pleasure to have become a member and then for almost the last 6 months, its moderator. Cool Wink

I've enjoyed reading the contributions, comments, suggestions, recommendations and the razor-sharp wit (...and sometimes, not-so-sharp Exclamation Confused ) - long may this continue.

I've had the pleasure of meeting several of you during 2004 Very Happy and hope to meet you again and certainly meet up with some others that I feel I perhaps know a little already...we'll see.

On the downside, 2004 hasn't been without its worldwide troubles and in that respect, it's similar to most other years - the tragedies of conflict and misfortune, whether personal, national or global never seem to be far away, do they Question Sad

There have also been a number of significant losses in the musical world, though for fear of omitting any, I'll mention just the 2 who probably influenced me more than any other during my late teens (just a few years ago Rolling Eyes ):

Clement Dodd - need I say more - those "special" Studio One singles and those wonderful rhythms - I never tire of hearing them - and...

Dave Godin - his columns in Blues & Soul in the early 70s were always intelligently worded and while I didn't always agree with the opinions he expressed, I often learned something and they were good to read - plus he turned me on to some excellent soul sounds Smile

Still, there has been some great JA music this year, old and new - I have particularly enjoyed Gregory Isaacs new "Open The Door" album and as well as the enduringly popular Box Sets, Trojan/Sanctuary has been putting together some pretty good and well thought out retrospective single- and various artist compilations...the slip case sleeves, eye-catching and appropriate designs and the much-improved standard of sleeve notes have certainly added something to the quality.

It may be too early to say, but my feeling is that the recent Keith Hudson compilation ("The Hudson Affair") may prove to be the best Trojan release of the year.

Anyway, I've droned on enough - take care this Christmas, enjoy the season in whatever way you feel is appropriate and please continue to support the Trojan Forum. Cool Smile

Sincere thanks - best as always - Zap / Joe

Thank you Zap.

I would like to echo it by chiming in with a very merry Christmas to all the Trojan massive from myself and the Mashitup crew.

Seasonal Respects

Baldy

Thank you for your kind wishes, Zap. May I reciprocate them and wish you and all members of the forum and their nearest and dearest all the best for 2005 and a happy Christmas in the meantime.

As I voted in the poll at the other place, my release of the year was from Trojan ("Gaz Mayall's Top Ska Tunes"). The Slim Smith anthology was also a crucial addition to my collection and the Keith Hudson (only heard through once so far) looks set to force itself onto my CD player with some insistence in the coming weeks. A happy new year beckons! As I hope it does to all other contributors to this welcoming, friendly and informative forum.

I'm grumpy for the other 364 days of the year, Ian. Whereabouts in Leeds are you from? Strictly speaking I live in Bradford (Saltaire) but work in Leeds which is where I was (at work) when I first registered here
