Hullo everyone, especially my old friends from B&F and Chatty Mouth. Hello Joe! Only me, mate. And a big Kia Ora to j j down there in Aotearoa.
I've only been into reggae since 1984, so I still have a lot to learn. Working on it.
My taste is for 20th Century reggae generally, beginning 1966 and finishing wherever the tunes take me. I started out liking roots, dub and all that kind of thing, but after moving to the UK in 1992 from Wellington NZ I realised that almost all reggae is NOT that. Rub Up Push Up! Not too keen on modern retrograde roots, tbh. Plenty of people like that, Jah know, I just want to keep the oldies blasting and teach my two boys how good music can get.
My thing is CDs, legitimate CDs, no downloads or vinyl for me and I have managed to build a fairly comprehensive library of tunes and I continue to backfill the ones I missed first time around, despite the frankly eye-watering prices these days.
I remain mystified by the appearance of various Trojan releases from 10 or so years ago which seem to pop up at random intervals - e.g. The Clancy Eccles Freedom 2 x CD which was apparently released in 2005 but which became readily available a couple of years ago at £8 - beats the £30 or so which second hand copies were going for in say 2010.
Why is that???
Still looking for a reasonably priced copy of the Johhny Osbourne & Sensations comp, btw.
My favourite year is 1969 (fast early reggae) and I also love early Dancehall, currently gorging myself on those Greensleeves Junjo re-issues. Actually that is a good example where the CD copy is superior to the vinyl in that you get something like twice as many tunes per copy.
But really I just love reggae - I know I will never get to the bottom of the well, it's a love that continues to give and give.
Really favourite stuff includes Junior Byles, Gregory Isaacs, Joe Gibbs, King Jammy, Junjo and Johhny Osbourne.
I have been invited by DJ Ian (Mrs Trellis) to his House of Reggae Show on reggaeworldmusic.com along with my good mate Papa Clive from time to time where we indulge in our love of the wonderful music from the Isle of Springs.
My other loves include my wife and 2 lads, Belgian Beer, WWII history, New Order and blazing the pipe. Yes man!

Wotcha Benj mate - great to have you here...
Thanks for your most interesting bio, some of it I remember from when we'd met from time to time - the bit about no vinyl I think I'd forgotten.
The problem with having a "vinyl only" or "CD only" rule is that sometimes impossible-to-find tunes get released only on a CD, while other tunes never (or at least, not for many years) make it onto CD.
So I indulge in both.
...which is all very well until a killah dillah tune is only available as a download...
By the way, do you recognise anyone in this October 2007 photo?

Yeah, I do remember that, Zap. Great night, Thank God you didn't dig up the Jammy Bros shot! Still got the t-shirt but am waaay too fat to fit it now.
As I mentioned me and Ian are still going strong, he is in good form with plenty reggae and a lovely partner and still maintains the House of Reggae in fine shape.
I don't really have a choice as regards format, if I was still doing vinyl in the UK only madness that way lies with my obsessive nature, for sure. I switched back in 1991 to only buying CDs and sold almost all my vinyl in 1992 for peanuts, sigh.
Nice to be here, thanks to everyone for the warm welcome, I appreciate it. _________________ Long Ago Is So Long Ago |

Ian keeps up with Mikey (lives in Sussex with Mikey Jr) but lost touch with Hugh (Conscious Pilot), did spend a funny all nighter with him in Paris a while ago, that is a story in itself. I see Tim P and Mistah Brown from time to time, most recently at 2016 Carnival w Gladdy Wax. _________________ Long Ago Is So Long Ago |

Hi Benj....
I've tuned in to Ian's show on quite a few occasions over the years, but not recently.... And, I was a member of Chatty Mouth briefly a few years back, but there was too much madness there for my liking.. _________________ Blessed are the cheesemakers.... |

No, I suspect we're all aware of those who liked to stir the pot...
Pretty sure they're not on here... _________________ Blessed are the cheesemakers.... |

True. The Trojan Forum got rid of its pots, years ago.....At least we still have the window to piss from......Watch out, below, those who have come to stir! _________________ It seems that our brave new world is becoming less tolerant, spiritual and educated than it ever was when I was young.

In turn, from the French "Regardez l'eau!" or "Garde a l'eau!" shouted by women when they were about to empty their chamber pots into the runnel in the middle of the streets a couple of centuries ago. _________________ Play it nice and cool, son. Nice and cool! You know what I mean.
