I've seen that the Beat & the Selector are touring downunder.....they are making it to NZ & I wouldn't mind going to see them...only thing I'm unsure about is the Beat, as the info I've seen say's it is 'Ranking Roger (& his son) & the Beat' - so are the rest of the original members there or not?

Ranking Rog wasn't the lead singer from what I remember?

can anybody tell me how much of the Beat is still 'beating'?

Here's what I know http://premier.ticketek.co.nz/shows/show.aspx?sh=BEATSELE18

cheers

I wasn't impressed with the Beat when i saw them a few years ago.

It seemed every song had to finish with a self-indulgent, Rock guitar solo!

Have to say I'm surprised that a band of relatively limited interest (which doesn't sound like the real deal for a start) can make a tour this far afield financially viable. After all, if I'm right the Boomtown Rats had to cancel their planned tour of Oz not long ago due to poor ticket sales.

Any version of the band just has to include Dave Wakeling as far as I'm concerned.

I was never a huge fan of The Beat or The Selector. I was a Specials and Madness man!

Some great tracks with the Ska music they invented! Rolling Eyes Wink

AFAIK, the original "The Beat", was founded by Roger, and Dave, together. Since then, Roger uses the "The Beat" moniker, while Dave uses "The English Beat".

If you go, don't be surprised, if Dave comes onstage, at some point.

While not a fan, of 2Tone, I do like more than a few, Beat, tunes. I never considered them, Ska in any way, as others do. Blasphemous, to some, but they don't pay my bills, so I pay them, little mind. Mr. Green

If anything, the Beat was just a British band, influenced by Ska. Rolling Eyes

FWIW, I've heard, both fellows, still put on a good show. Maybe a General Public reunion, will soon follow. The world could use, a wee bit of tenderness, right now. Mr. Green

I saw both bands a month or so ago and really enjoyed them. I have seen both bands several times over the years and they still put on a good show. A few memories came flooding back Smile
Also great that they're still making new albums!

Just wondered Krobes whether Pauline Black was in the Selecter line-up?

I saw the Selector and I thought Pauline Black was the only original member left, their songs weren't particularly good Exclamation
