I quite like this version https://youtu.be/lMMEvWyyZYM

Would I be correct in thinking Groovy is the correct spelling of his last name? Wink

I believe 'Tucker' is the correct spelling! Mr. Green Wink

I quite like that version too.

It doesn't sound like Winston but I don't know who it might be. Here's one for comparison:

YSM is very raspy - not like Winston unless he was trying to sound like someone else. I do like this version, which is on the same riddim as Laurel's 'Rise And Fall'.

It isn't Winston Groovy/Gruvy/Tucker.

IIRC, it's a young fellow, that Laurel recorded, at one of his many sessions. I read some assertions, it's Laurel himself, though. Wink

I can't rightly remember, if the Cherry Red/Pressure Drop CD(essential listening), mentions who it is, or not.

I think Tony Rounce, may be able to shed some light, on this, as he's the one, that did the liners, IIRC.

Also, this has to be, one of the better UK Reggae versions, of the Sam Cooke classic. -WHICH- was written by L.C Cooke, not Sam..... Wink

FWIW, LC was a good singer, in his own right....I'll post a tune of his, that's dynamite, as my "Other TOD".

Smile

Whether or not it was Mr. Tucker vocalising on YOU SEND ME has been discussed before...sounds a bit like Laurel himself except that it's a bit too melodic for his usual style.

I don't think it's Laurel and I don't think any of the CD sleevenotes have shed any light (I'm not sure that YSM is on any of them, or the Laurel productions CD that Phil did).

I don't think it's Winston or Laurel, but I'm not sure who it is.

If you mean the Pressure Drop set (PDROPCD12 / 2011) "Boss Reggae Sounds - Reggae Popcorn" Marc - then it is on there...

Just pulled it out and it is indeed on there Joe Rolling Eyes The sleevenotes describe it as 'his [Winston's] finest moment' and 'this recording illustrates the singer's soulful tenor to great effect'. Hmmm..........

So it was Big Phil, that did the liners, not Tony Rounce?

That's the set, I was referring to. And, that version, was an added boon, as it's so good!

Eugene Paul did a good job, but the chap on that one.....Hit the nail, square on the head, for my ears! Cool

I don't think this is Tony's area of expertise - but it's clearly not Phil's either Rolling Eyes

Too much "bubble organ" (or whatever he calls it - come in RudePete) for Rouncey most probably...
