Here's a discogs page...anyone know who they were?
I only have one track by them called 'Sometimes Coffee' on the VA Studio One album - Your Jamaican Girl.

Chris Peckings plays 'I Know' on the Peckings Radio Show, very nice tune!

As well as elsewhere, I KNOW sits on the flip of THE FIRST TIME I MET YOU - a Coxson re-press I picked up at Peckings almost 4 years ago.

Other than SOMETIMES COFFEE (on the same LP) I have no other tracks by them.

Did they not also cut a racing based tune called "Suckie Get A Blow" for Coxsone, or is that a mis-credit?

Don't forget this massive tune, folks(tis the flip, to Roy Richards-Killer Blues, on Coxsone, 1970. Be careful, though. Both are also on a 1970 Banana, but both flips, are credited to the Super Tones.):

The Splendors - The First Time I Met You

Absolutely storming, chugging, and infectious riddim, galore. The vocals are sublime, with everything being well equalised, at the studio. This is "Boss Sounds, 101".

Now, try scoring a copy in good nick, for a good price, is "How To Induce A Headache 101". Rolling Eyes

I'll see what I can find, about the Splenders/Splendors..... Wink

I'm fairly certain, The Splenders/Splendors=Mighty Cloud Band.

Featuring:
Butch Robinson, Dennis "Jah D" Fearon, George McLean, Levi Williams, & Shelton Walks.

FWIW, Jah D, George McLean, and Shelton "Shelly" Walks, released some killer Roots Reggae!

Have a looksee, for yourself. Wink

If you need some enticing, try this one, from Sonia Pottinger!

Interesting. Have to say I haven't heard or got much by the MCB. 'Theme From Manchester' I have on a comp, but other titles like 'The Same Folks' and 'Disco Stomp' I'm not acquainted with at all.

Folks, we'd discussed this topic before, but I couldn't find it. Though, I didn't put too much effort, into looking, to begin with.

I remembered(which earned me, another beer! These days, I forget too easy), that there was some sort of link, between the Splenders, and another group. I'm pleased that, in our previous digital chin-wag, we'd come to a similar conclusion, because the Mighty Cloud Band, started ringing bells, once I got to piecing things, together.

Further, I remember delving into the MCB discography, because of it. By, and large, they seem to have been responsible for some tidy releases. A few of which, I'll post, for those that don't know them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XphgM_KPjt0
"The Same Folks"

Great riddim, and harmonies on this ditty!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZenecLQ75hY
"Red Hot"

Nice, and heavy, Dub-wise.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9kisu8XHUE
"Today's Melody"

Nice, straight-forward 70's Reggae, with Vin Gordon honking away.....Good stuff!

Wink

Thanks Seth...

SAME FOLKS also by "forum favourite" Ronnie Davis...

TODAY'S MELODY might be more recognisable (it was to me) via RIDING MELODY by Jah Woosh on the same rhythm...

Glad you mentioned, the Ronnie Davis(RIP), Joe. I didn't post it, as I was wondering if anyone else, would recognise the Splenders version, being the same song ol' Ronnie, had covered, as well.... Wink

Spot on, about Jah Woosh, too! A great effort, in my book! Woosh is an artist, I need to more of.... Smile
