Welcome aboard. As for logging in problems, there's been an on going "glitch" for a few months now. Hopefully, it'll be rectified, soon come. Smile

I live in Hockley which is a sleepy little town about 6 miles away. The trains back from Southend stop running at 11, even on Saturday night, and cabs cost a fortune (about 20 back to my gaff). Southend's piss poor for transport if you live away from the coast. I also end up missing Asher G when he comes down to play at the Old Hat.

I first went in the Borough when it was the Hole In The Wall in 1971. Only for a quick lemonade with Gran on a Grey-Green from Brixton mind Wink

I did a gig in Rochford earlier in the year, absolutely packed. Tonight's gig should be really busy too as we have people coming from Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, Grays, Basildon, Rochford, Canvey Island and of course a good scene down in Southend.
Ive got another in Leigh in December and another 9 gigs booked in Southend for next year starting with The Sutton Arms on February 3rd with The Estimators, an excellent original ska band covering the likes of Shenley Duffus, Azie Lawrence, Baba Brooks, Prince Buster etc. I strongly recommend seeing them. It will be packed, guaranteed. And its free which is a credit to the pub!

Do let me know if you're in Rochford again - that I can do, no problem. Leigh's a brilliant place, but again a bit duff for transport.

As for the Sutton Arms, although I've not been in there it looks a bit of a dive and has that reputation (plus you do get the local druggies hanging about there). But all credit to the landlord if he can make the place swing inna nightime!

Its a bit run down, but Ive been going to pubs that are run down all my life. Its often where you find character rather than plastic Smile
I believe its getting a big facelift soon but they're having about 10 ska/reggae nights there next year and Ive been booked for 4 of them.
I'll check the Rose and Crown in Rochford again, we had the Tilbury Skins come down for the last one, hot, sweaty reggae all night.

Shenley is one of my favourite Ska vocalists, Azie surely means PEMPELEM, Baba Brooks is another favourite *** never cut a clunker and Prince Buster needs no introduction.

*** When I asked B.B.Seaton if he had known Bab Brooks and why I didn't have anything post about 1966 by him, he said that he did know him, but not that well and the reason he stopped playing was that he split his lip, guessing that it never healed properly - and that he thought Baba had passed on in the early 80s sometime, although he wasn't by any means certain of that.

I hated it at first, but don't mind it now - don't have a Bluebeat original, but have re-presses on Caribou (hard-to-find, by all accounts) and Diggin' Donkey.
