Hey guys, wondering if you can help me out.

After digging and finding a couple of solid lovers covers, I am now trying to find more interesting ones out there.

I'm talking about stuff like Yvonne Archer's - Ain't Nobody (Chaka Khan cover), Dave Bakers - The Glow of Love (by Change) and Lloyd Parks - Standing In the Shadow of Love.

Basically infectious stuff for home listening or upbeat tracks that really work in a dance. Anybody care to share any finds? Thank you in advance.

I don't really go for Lover's stuff after about 1981, when it became a bit too slick and polished for my taste (plus I don't buy 12" 45s). I'd check out pretty much anything by Junior English (he did great covers of 'Have You Been Making Out OK' and 'Never Lose, Never Win'), Janet Kay ('Loving You') and some of the stuff on the Lover's Rock label like Cassandra's 'If You're Not Back In Love By Monday'. Have to say I just go for whatever it is regardless of whether it's a cover or not.

I think there's a S/H shop with Reggae over in the Wick - you may know it already?

Not particularly upbeat, but Terry Linen's cover of MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE (late 90s) immediately sprang to mind:

...and then there was Louisa Mark's excellent cover of the Robert Parker song...

...plus there are no end of covers of Soul songs dating from the early 70s - not strictly Lovers, but certainly popular at those nights.

Oh, one of my favourite subjects.

I guess you know about this?:

Total Reggae Chart Hits Reggae Style (VPCD1973) 2 x CD
5.30 + postage at amazon.co.uk

Its OK, a bit cheesy IMHO.

Rhinestone Cowboy, anyone? La Isla Bonita, Careless Whisper or even a D'Ya Think I'm Sexy????

On the other hand, it does have Bob Andy's Games People Play and John Holt's If I Were a Carpenter and of course Foxy Brown's Fast Car.

Maybe not so much Lovers though.

Do you play out???

I like the top photo in that link - having not long come of the Windrush those men are standing just a few yards from the Balham Odeon, where I spent many a good time from about 1968 until `72. And when one thinks about it only 20 years after that image was taken.

Fantastic photo! And, Marc's snippet of his being there, 20 years later, isn't that long, afterward.....It really put things, in perspective, for those of us, who are able to appreciate Skinheads adopting Reggae, and Soul as "their" music, of choice. Smile

Nice. I do like that film. Though, I'm a fan of most everything, Oliver Reed(RIP), was ever in, to begin with! Smile

As for being on your todd......I guess, you didn't have the helicopter parents, most youth seem to have, these days...... Wink
