Richard Ace, Dennis Moss, Delano Stewart and Boris Gardiner.

From The Gleaner:

Boris Gardiner: "Around 1960, Richard Ace contacted me, asking if I was interested in coming into a group he was forming - The Rhythm Aces, which I joined. We started doing some gigs at clubs like The Penguins on Deanery Road, and Vere Johns as guest artistes. Our first real exposure was on a 1960-61 Ben E. King show. The headlines read , 'Rhythm Aces all but stole the show'."

Gardiner went into the recording studios to do his first set of recordings with the group in 1960.

The Rhythm Aces quartet of Richard Ace, Dennis Moss, Delano Stewart (later to become a member of The Gaylads), Gardiner as lead vocalist, and the incomparable Caribs band with three Australians on board, recorded the undistinguished Angella.

Its follow-up, A Thousand Teardrops, a never-to-be-forgotten tear-jerker, rode the charts for weeks and was on the lips of almost every Jamaican.

"A thousand teardrops, each day I shed over you,
I toss and turn each night in my bed, dreaming over you
Could this be love? This must be love, true love."
He had fans hypnotised as he took them to the bridge with:
With every breath I take
With every sigh I make
Your face appears before me."

Financial constraints, however, precipitated the group's disintegration, and by 1963, Gardiner joined Kes Chin and The Souvenirs band as vocalist and began teaching himself to play the rhythm guitar.

Fantastic stuff, Mr.Lambourn, sir!

What little I have, featuring, the Rhythm Aces, -Reggaewise- is top quality. But then, that's a completely different, set of fellows. Rolling Eyes

As for Boris, teaching himself, how to play guitar.....We've all been blessed, that he did, for he's laid down, some killer notes, as a bassist. Wink

There have been several "Rhythm Aces" and I wonder if those backing Rico on some late 60s tunes (THE BULLET being one) wre the same outfit.

Bobby Moore had such a band:

...a classic that has been ruined by each and every cover version..

Gene Phillips had some Rhythm Aces as well:

I figured, the "Rhythm Aces", we know and love, thanks to Joel Mansano, were an amalgamation of UK players.....the Joe's/Boss All Stars. Wink

It'll probably be the Rudies. I can't spot 'Return Of The Bullet' on YouTube, but here's Z.Z. Beat:

I think there was also a later Rhythm Aces combo who covered Rose Royce's 'I Wanna Get Next To You'. Locksley again?

I don't hear the Cimarons on that one. It sounds to me like the same musicians as on 'Move Up Starsky'. I've asked anyway.

I do quite like this one.

The musicians on the Mexicano's "Goddess of Love" (whence MOVE UP STARSKY CAME) are listed here - a mix and match, so i suspect nthey mostly didn't play on every track:

...who's Sly Dumbar? ...and Rod Brian?

I can see how Chalk Farm studios were starting to lose business what with so much home-grown Reggae coming out of the Coach House.
