Thank you and wow, Trojan records, for releasing the earlier take of Nora Deanís Barbwire on The Treasure Isle Story box. It was unexpected as it is delightful. This, after releasing the alternate and superior take of her song, Mama a few years back, makes me have to ask, what else ya got?

Trojan Records' reissue guru is Laurence Cane-Honeysett, and he tends to play his cards fairly close to his chest Michael.

As this year is Trojan's 50th anniversary, there will be a lot going on. I suspect there may be a box set or two, and the Trojan Book is due in July.

Several more CD releases are due out on their Doctor Bird sister label, but we are sworn to secrecy (Red Red Wine / Vol. 2 notwithstanding)! Rolling Eyes Wink

I'm sure there will be a lot more too. I'll see if I can prise anything out of him.

Charlie, without divulging any secrets , any idea if some of these upcoming releases will be more roots orientated (70's) stuff? Not that I don't love early stuff, just like me roots Wink

cheers
j j

p.s Loved the Dr Bird Errol Brown release(s) Very Happy

I was pleased with Errol's dub set, especially as I didn't have either LP. I tend to like my dubs without any vocals - basically instrumentals.

I'm not aware of any 'rootsy' stuff, but I'll see what I can find out. Laurence did mention the name Owen Gray in passing, but I'm note sure in what context.

I'm sure MdeK would have had an astute comment, were he still around today Sad

True. Wink

And, one of the few things, I disagreed with the fellow, on. Owen's not a top flight favourite, of mine, but there's more than a dozen cuts, I do like quite a lot.

I agree...I probably like at least 13 of Owen's songs, whether "...complete with Owen's leaden rendition..." (as MdeK "famously" reckoned BALLISTIC AFFAIR was) or not Laughing

I feel, Squire Owens, drops the ball on "BA".

Great riddim. Nice, rollicking, yet laid back. Then, there's Owen, who was either hepped up, on copious quantities, of coffee. Or he needed, to wee. Badly.

See for yourselves, folks:

Thanks Charlie, It would be great to have Owen's 'Dreams of Owen Gray/Turning Point' album available again....U Roy obviously loved the album as he deejayed over many of the songs on one of his Front Line albums! eg. Turning Point , Do You Remember, Fire In Trenchtown & Big Youth with Jah Jah Train!

https://www.discogs.com/Owen-Gray-Turning-Point/master/765048

& his 'Fire & Bullets' album (also Trojan) has the wonderful track 'Rizla' on it,

So I guess then that the ''Dreams of JJ" would include all those listed above Mr. Green

The only other clue is that Laurence was looking for the track 'Girl What You're Doing To Me'.

Don't "we all" have that on a Camel single?

Indeed we do. One may have had a very scratched copy though!

Hanging off lamposts, but finding a minty copy would be tough. I may have had a near EX one (don't ask Rolling Eyes ) but have since downgraded to a VG+. The continental issues are probably in better nick.
