Yes indeed Ekki my friend - I did mine (at last) a couple of days ago - if I publish them, I won't be tempted to change my mind, so here they are:

Single Artist
1. Augustus Pablo - King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown
2. Prince Buster - Fabulous Greates Hits
3. Upsetters - Return Of Django
4. Barrington Levy - Here I Come
5. Crystalites - Undertaker
6. Cimarons - Maka
7. U Roy - Version Galore
8. Gaylads - Over The Rainbow's End
9. Heptones - On Top
10. Garnett Silk - Give I Strength
...I notice most of these are collections of singles

Various Artists
1. Tighten Up Vol. 1
2. Harder They Come
3. Reggae Special (Coxsone)
4. Reggae Rarities Box Set
5. Ska Bonanza
6. Jamaica Train To Ska-Ville
7. Deep Ska
8. Killer Instrumentals-Best Of Studio 1 Vol. 3
9. This Is Reggae Vol. 1 (Pama)
10. Big Gundown-Reggae Inspired By Spaghetti Westerns

...I guess this reflects my preference for "foundation" material Wink

I only have heard the name Cimarrons so far, is this album Maka still easily available (I mean, mostly, at a reasonable price, I'm no collector), I'd like to lend that an ear if it's that good!

I'm not sure of it's still available, Alhazred - here's a link to roots archives for this album - the one I have is the top picture (I bought it in 1978 on U.K. Polydor 2383 512) - the bottom one, which is a CD and I assume has the same tracks was released in around 1997 I believe - I don't know if this one is still about:

Regarding "Maka", Alhazred - musically, it's in a fairly unusual style, for the most part it's moody, haunting and captivating - to my ears anyway Smile

On the Top 10 lists side, in no particular order and just for the sake of it, below are the ones that made up my shortlists (but didn't make it to the final 10 Confused)

Gladiators - Trenchtown Mix Up
Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey
Jackie Mittoo - Keyboard King At Studio One

Guns Of Navarone

It's been several weeks, but here's another update. I have now had responses from 42 people - my thanks to all who have contributed thus far, so numbers are creeping up. These are they:

6655321 - Alan - Alhazred - alireggae - arty - Ash - bedward - BMC - Bosssounds - DaveH - door peeper - Dr. Sleeper - Ekki - ephteeay - fastnbulbous - freewheeling frankie - Giorgos Chaimalas - Gordy - Grumpy - His_I_M - Ian - Intensified - Laurent - LORD - Mark T - Matt - mcgr - NickB - Pluto - prajna - RasRyan - reggaedelic - Ringo - rocksteady - Skadad - skunkride - Stefan - Stephen_Nye - Thunder Ghost - wim&els - xraymusic - Zapatoo_the_Tiger

I'd love to see yet more votes come in Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Cool Cool Cool

So far, 228 different single artist albums have been nominated and exactly 200 various artist compilations - a healthy-ish spread though there seems to be precious little in the way of nominations for very recent new-JA-music albums (pleanty of recent-ish releases of old material though)...

In the single artist list "Heart Of The Congos" has, not surprisingly perhaps, appeared in more people's nominations than any other (17) and likewise unsurprisingly "Jesus Dread" has appeared in more people's various artists favourite's list (15)

The current top 20 positions are:

Single Artist
1. Congos - Heart Of The Congos (currently by quite a margin)
2. Bob Andy - Songbook
3. Abyssinians - Forward On To Zion (aka Satta Massa Ganna)
4. Augustus Pablo - King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown
5. Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey
6. Mighty Diamonds - Right Time
7. Culture - Two Sevens Clash
8. Heptones - On Top
9. Horace Andy - In The Light
10. Burning Spear - Studio One Presents
11. Bunny Wailer - Blackheart Man
12. Wailing Souls - Wailing Souls
13. Gregory Isaacs - Extra Classic
14. Horace Andy - Skylarking
15. Lee Perry & The Upsetters - Super Ape
16. Bob Marley - Songs Of Freedom
17. Dennis Brown - Visions Of Dennis Brown
18. Skatalites - Ska Boo Da Ba
19. Wailing Souls - Firehouse Rock
20. Burning Spear - Sounds of the Burning Spear

Various Artists
1. Jesus Dread - Yabby U Productions (also by quite a margin)
2. Arkology 1976-1979
3. Lee Perry & Friends - Open The Gate 1974-1976

Thanks Baldy mate, I've captured those lists Wink

One Q - the Prince Buster - is that the "classic" yellow sleeve 12-track LP released on Melodisc MS1 (also on Fab maybe) in about 1969, but available for many years? ...or the much later CD equivalent (but with more and different tracks) issued on Sequel over 10 years ago?

...or something else?

For now, I'll assume the 12-track LP Wink

'Wash Wash' by Prince Buster is a tune I want to hear, I've heard Lee Perry based 'Show Me That River' (from Battle of Armagideon album) on that tune.

I love the Perry track therefore I'm intrigued as to what 'Wash Wash' sounds like

Zap, isn't it time for an update?
And since this started in April there should be a deadline too...

I'd planned to do one during last week, Ekki - though I didn't make it - I have the data with me it just needs sorting - still less than 50 contributors

As to a deadline, originally it was to be the end of May - I was (naively) expecting a flurry of input which didn't happen...

Watch this space Wink

So here's another long-overdue update to the Top 100 lists - my apologies for that - I have now developed a fairly slick way (within the constraints of MS-Excel) to produce these figures, so I would hope that further updates are not so daunting to produce.

I have received lists from the following good folk, many thanks once again - most have contributed both single-artist and various artists lists...this is in the order I received them:

Gordy - Grumpy - Ian - DaveH - Laurent - Skadad - Stefan - fastnbulbous - wim&els - bedward - skunkride - Alhazred - His_I_M - prajna - Ringo - mcgr - ephteeay - arty - LORD - Alan - reggaedelic - Intensified - NickB - Bosssounds - RasRyan - Matt - Thunder Ghost - xraymusic - rocksteady - alireggae - Stephen_Nye - Ash - door peeper - Ekki - Dr. Sleeper - freewheeling frankie - Zapatoo_the_Tiger - BMC - Pluto - Giorgos Chaimalas - Mark T - 6655321 - devonevo - Donovan - KEEL - jay-b - fperry1969 - Baldhead Selector

Regarding the single artist list, you'll notice that I've combined Burning Spear's "Creation Rebel" (Heartbeat) and "Sounds of the Burning Spear" (Soul Jazz) as 16 tracks appear on both.

I plan to finish this around about the end of September - so if you haven't sent me your lists, please do so - I appreciate this can be a difficult thing, but have a go Cool Wink - time is running out Exclamation

Here are the latest lists (up to the Top 30) - I leave you to make your own judgments as to the merits of any album being "up there" or why much of the single artist top 10 is mid- to late 70s material, but the various artists equivalent contains more older material.
