As you all may know, the recent Q Reggae Special had a feature naming the top 100 Reggae LPs of all time.

This has caused a fair amount of debate among collectors as it was a purely subjective collection and wasn't compiled by a number of votes.

So, to help set the record straight, here's your chance to get in on the act and "have your say".

We've devised what we think is the definitive reggae poll (ok, so we haven't included best reggae bongo player, but you'll just have to forgive us for that), with four main sections and a total of 55 individual categories.

All you have to do is name your top choice in each field and we'll compile the results at a later date and see how things stand. Who knows, we might even send the list off to Q Magazine and get them to publish the results.

Once you've voiced your own opinions, don't forget to tell everyone about the poll, as the more people that vote, the more accurate results we'll get.

Oh yes, there's an incentive too. Each person who submits there votes will be entered into a draw to win a stack of Trojan goodies.

So, without further ado... here are the categories:

(copy and paste the following into a new post, adding your vote at the end of each line)

Hi all - a very worthy poll - though I know this could seem like a heap of work, especially with the vast wealth of quality JA musicians and singers and the vast output over the last 45 years Shocked Cool Cool

...and as for trying to limit each category to just one song or person etc. - ouch, a tough task Shocked Confused Smile

What I'll do for mine is copy the text from Gav's original post and put my answers alongside - I definitely won't have an answer for every category - I'd have to think hard about a top digital album, for example.

I'd like to think that our views would count for something and be published somewhere significant - after all, those damn polls we see in the press and on TV seem to be very populist - folk like us here and our friends at B&F, Pama and other forums are far more knowledgeable about "our" (if I may be so bold) music than the ordinary bloke or girl. In this context maybe we members of forums are like Prince Buster's sound system - representing the "Voice of the People" Cool Wink

This ties in nicely with the winding up of the Top 100 JA albums poll, that I'll finish off in the next few weeks and publish...

Keep the faith!!!

We will be speaking to Record Collector Magazine about this poll to see if they would be interested in publishing the results. Will keep you all updated with progress on this. Fingers crossed!

I'll try to get to this in the next couple days, but a question - why does it stop at 1990? That's 15 years of prime music left out!

Many thanks, zapatoo - the poll's a fine idea, especially in light of the top 100 Reggae LPs poll in the recent Q Special, which was a disappointingly random selection, to say the least. Keep up the great work! Very Happy
