Well, after a slight delay while the second poll resolved itself (the Lovers Rock box set just shading out the Dub Rarities for second place, I'm pleased to announce that the following albums will be fighting it out in your last votes:

Poll 1 (32 votes cast)
1st. - Trojan Reggae Legends Box Set - 13 (40.63%)
2nd. - Hold Me Tight - Lynn Tait Anthology 65-73 - 10 (31.25%)

Poll 2 (36 votes cast)
1st. - Trojan Rocksteady Rarities Box Set - 17 (47.22%)
2nd. - Trojan Lovers Rock Box Set - 8 (22.22%)

Poll 3 (35 votes cast)
1st. - Trojan Ska Rarities Box Set - 14 (40.00%)
2nd. - Trojan Eighties Box Set - 12 (34.29%)

Hardly surprising that almost all are Box Sets, after all they did win all but one of the monthly votes (Dennis Brown's Money In My Pocket collection, released in March, being the one exception) - I wonder how well Lynn Tait will fare?, though it's perhaps fitting that one of the singularly most influential JA (though he was from Trinidad) musicians of the 60s music should make it through.

Away you go I'll let this run until next Wednesday evening - 1st. February - should give most an opportunity to vote.

I know this poll will be watched with interest, though how "those upstairs" will use all this info, I couldn't say Wink

There must be something wrong with my musical ears as I didn't vote for any of the so-far winners.
Now I'm stuck as I'm not too impressed by any of them. And like Tim P I don't like box sets very much.
I guess Lynn Taitt will get my vote even though I could only sit through half a CD of it before getting bored. Wink

I found the Lynn Tait to become a bit samey after a while, DP - perhaps mixing the vocals and instrumentals might have been a better way to have arranged the tunes - though overall, top quality stuff Cool Cool Cool

Well I think the poll confirms the sales chart.

Boxes are popular, although Rock Steady is suspiciously absent.

ML

Idea Can't think why Mu isn't in our poll.

...yet the Rocksteady Rarities box set currently leads the about-to-close poll, ML Wink

I don't think that Jah Wobble's "Mu" polled any votes at all when it was released Sad - I certainly found it hard work Confused

I reckon the box sets always win as they are value for money run over 3CD's and quite often have a common thread on each CD.

Like Lovers Rock had a girl CD then the lads CD then more girl singers on last CD. Wink

Others cover early songs on first CD to the later stuff last CD.

Also with 60+ Box Sets covering all jamaican styles from Calypso, R&B through to Dancehall, although I would love to see a 90's Box Set, and who knows in years to come a 2000's Box Set

Another good thing about the Box Sets they act as an introduction to styles, artists etc and would not therefore appeal to diehard reggae fans.

Some good points in your comments BS - mind you, as well as being good value, mostly good to listen to, the box sets have always served as useful "gap fillers" Wink
