...that the so-called Trojan Fan Club is absolute bullshit.

The advertisement that these are "strictly limited editions" is strictly a falsehood. Not one of the CDs has gone out of print, which is inconceivable for releases of this quality purportedly printed in editions of 1000. Simply printing more copies to meet demand is not the definition of a limited edition.

Some copies are jacketed and numbered, some are not, but no distinction is made between them in either Trojan's literature nor in retailer listings. But the retailers are not to be blamed - they cannot offer any more information than Trojan/Sanctuary provides them.

Now, one would have to be skeptical of any business plan suggesting a run limited to 1000 new CDs is a good idea. Post-production, design, and manufacturing costs simply make this unrealistic, and artist royalties for such a release are virtually nil, offering essentially zero benefit to the creators of the work being re-issued.

However, that is what consumers were promised and what motivated many, such as myself, to shell out premium prices for these CDs.

The discs themselves are fantastic - among the finest re-issues I have ever come across. But with each CD Sanctuary presses beyond the 1000 advertised - as they have undeniably done for all six releases - they are ripping off their most devoted customers.

By the way, if anyone still cares, here are the six Fan Club releases, in order:

Derrick Harriott's Rocksteady Party
Reggae With the Hippy Boys
Keith Hudson: Entering the Dragon
Tappa Zukie: Escape from Hell
The Tennors and Friends: Reggae Girl
Duke Reid Rock's Steady (no, that's not a typo)

Amen to all that, KingOfSka Confused Very Happy

Yep - nothing but a marketing ploy - and a half-baked ploy at that Shocked...I have one that is numbered 1100+

...but top-notch releases (though I found TZ's to be a bit less than satisfactory)
