Good morning good morning good morning, welcome back ME! Very Happy

It's Sunday 20th December 2015, which just happens to be my Birthday! I'm sat here playing Booker T & The MGs - Green Onions quietly so as not to disturb anyone, even though they're all up and about already. Need to pop up and see me Mum shortly, so let's get on with this weeks Savage Jaw / Pressure Sounds update.

It really is time to get back into a regular buying/listening groove as I'm so easily distracted and sometimes wander off into different areas of music and often forget what I was doing before. Listened to this album last night, and despite some really cracking tunes it still is only a full dub album. I never can quite get into dub albums, they're ok to throw on for background music, but to sit down with the intention of actually listening to the whole album can be hard work sometimes. I owned a few of these tunes back in the days of 12" vinyl, so while I would recommend having this album, I would also recommend creating a playlist featuring the vocal cuts followed buy the dubs, a much better listening experience in my view, (of course that assumes that you're all up to date with the latest streaming hi-fi technology and not stuck in those dark ages of turntables and having to "flip" the record over to listen to the second half) Razz Razz Razz

Channel One: Maxfield Avenue Breakdown

Many happy returns, Brigstow! I hope your birthday is proving to be a good 'un (and that your Mum has given you a nice present!)

Like you, I often find listening to a whole dub album can be hard work, unless I'm in a "Dub Zone"...one exception is (of course) "King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown".

I don't have that Channel 1 album...

Belated Happy Birthday, Briggie! I hope you had a great day, and it's nice to have your reviews to read, again! Smile Smile

I've added this set to my wants list! It's one that's gotten under me radar! Wink

This album got a good thrashing on the hi-fi last night. Had completely forgotten how good this one was. A nice selection of vocal and dub cuts and considering it is a Lee Perry production, there isn't too much 'madness' in there. Playing this again now at low volume, because the kids are only just getting up, and will now transfer it to the permanent music library on the NAS which is a good sign, as not every album makes it there Twisted Evil

Lee Perry - Divine Madness...Definitely

Like the Channel 1 set earlier in the thread, it's another PS album I never got around to getting...and I have over 60 on the label.

Morning Trojanites.

If you're a fan of Winston Rodney, aka Burning Spear, then this weeks addition to the Pressure Sounds catalogue will be right up your street. A very good collection of vocal and dub cuts. I'm pretty sure that Burning Spear hasn't done a bad album, but it is someone with whom I've never quite gotten into in a big way. If I hear a track on a compilation album it's always very enjoyable, but I never want to play a whole album, I listened to this one last night and it was OK, just didn't get excited by it. In fact, as I type this on Sunday mornings, I usually play the album again quietly, but this morning I'm listening to ELO - A New World Record album, so that about sums up my passion for Burning Spear.

Burning Spear - Spear Burning

Shocked Surprised

I got the Spear as a double vinyl set when it came out... I can understand someone finding him a bit much for a whole album, but as someone who finds ELO about as MOR as music can get, we'll agree to differ there.... Wink

While I can certainly listen to a whole Spear album in one go (although I expect not much more than that in one go), while I don't mind a bit of ELO, after several tunes, I've had enough.

Mrs Z. doesn't like ELO at all.
