Well, thanks all for voting in those semi-finals - fairly clear winners in each of the polls...looks like those who voted did so in each poll. Here are the results:

Poll 1 (31 votes cast)
1st. Trojan Rockers Box Set (November winner) - 48% [ 15 votes]
2nd. Big Youth - Screaming Target (February winner) - 32% [ 10 votes]
3rd. Eric Donaldson - Cherry Oh Baby (September winner) - 12% [ 4 votes]
4th. = Trojan Selecta Vol. 4 (Sampler) (October winner) - 3% [ 1 vote]
4th. = Revolution Rock: A Clash Jukebox (runner up) - 3% [ 1 vote]

Poll 2 (32 votes cast)
1st. Trojan Motor City Box Set (May winner) - 37% [ 12 votes]
2nd. Keith Hudson - Enter The Dragon (runner up) - 25% [ 8 votes]
3rd. Various Artists - Original Riddims (June winner) - 21% [ 7 votes]
4th. Trojan Selecta Vol. 2 (Sampler) (April Winner) - 9% [ 3 votes]
5th. Desmond Dekker - This is Desmond Dekkar (August winner) - 6% [ 2 votes]

Poll 3 (31 votes cast)
1st. Trojan Bob Marley Covers Box Set (July winner) - 41% [ 13 votes]
2nd. Derrick Harriott - Rocksteady Party (runner up) - 29% [ 9 votes]
3rd. Garnet Silk - Rule Dem (March winner) - 16% [ 5 votes]
4th. = Dave Barker meets the Upsetters - Prisoner of Love (runner up) - 6% [ 2 votes]
4th. = Trojan Selecta Vol. 1 (Sampler) (January winner) - 6% [ 2 votes]

Time now to do the decent thing and see which Box Set follows the Rocksteady Rarities (rated the best Trojan release of 2005).

This poll will run until the end of next Sunday 21st. January...

Thanks everyone for your continued election turn out Very Happy

30 odd votes each not to bad a turnout.

Trojan Motor City Box Set

Found it to be average and hit and miss with the songs, didn't enjoy it at all, one listen and it was put up on my shelf.

Trojan Bob Marley Covers Box Set

Nice collection with a curiosity value that cover versions have.

Trojan Rockers Box Set

What I voted for as it was a strong excellent collection, some of my favourite artists and some great songs that i never heard before. Very Happy

The Rockers set just about scrapes in. Personally I'm astounded at the other pair making it past the starting gate especially the Motown effort.
Still, we all have our own taste and that's what makes the world go round.

While there have been some great (IMHO) Reggae covers of Motown tunes (Delroy Wilson's IT'S A SHAME - Detroit Spinners - is a stand-out that immediately springs to mind), there have certainly been more than a few stinkers...

I don't think I voted for any of these 3 finalists, though several I voted for did make it into the semi-finals...

In this poll, I voted for the box set with the most originality Wink

You can be as democratic about it as you like, but popularity is seldom an indicator of any artistic merit.

For all I care Trojan can repackage their greatesst hits however many times they like, and have thm selected by whichever non-entiy happens to be the current flavour of the month I wont be buying any of them.

In my opinion the things for which Trojan do deserve credit are some of the 'Fan Club' releases and projects like 'Haounted House' which I believe polled an incredible null-point, b*gger all, not a...

No doubt the former enable the latter thereby making them a necessary evil.

1 vote actually HIM! Not by me I hasten to add.
Sadly this will indicate to 'the masters' that a second volume won't be on the cards. Confused
I am puzzled as the reaction has been very favourable to the set, yet only one sole person voted for it.
I thought this forum was mainly interested in all-things skinhead and '69 style reggae. It would seem roots and Motown covers are the main interest here judging by the voting.
Perhaps we should have a poll.
Do you want Trojan to continue releasing '69 style reggae, or is it now roots and drab covers of soul hits that people want ? Question

Looking at the poll results for the year, fellows, it suggests that value for money rates highly among buyers - thus it ever was (14/6d LPs back in the day, when a normal-priced LP would cost around 30/- in the old money, if I remember correctly)

And I guess there some folk who don't have that much interest in vinyl any more, maybe because they're too young (possibly not having a turntable), maybe a bit older and have moved on with technology.

Nevertheless, I hope the sales of this most worthy box set does make it worth a second edition.

The monthly winners were:
January Trojan Selecta Vol. 1 (Sampler)
February Big Youth - Screaming Target (no box set or sampler)
March Garnet Silk - Rule Dem (only up against the criticesed "Sweet Memory Sounds")
April Trojan Selecta Vol. 2 (Sampler)
May Trojan Motor City Box Set
June Various Artists - Original Riddims
July Trojan Bob Marley Covers Box Set
August Desmond Dekker - This is Desmond Dekkar (up against "Enter The Dragon" - no contest, IMO)
September Eric Donaldson - Cherry Oh Baby (vs. Dave Barker and Pama Int. releases)
October Trojan Selecta Vol. 4 (Sampler)
    November Trojan Rockers Box Set
With best runners-up:
    Revolution Rock: A Clash Jukebox
Keith Hudson - Enter The Dragon
Dave Barker meets the Upsetters - Prisoner of Love
    Derrick Harriott - Rocksteady Party
Mostly these were good purchases, price-wise

I own up to voting proudly for the Skinhead Box Set...here's what I wrote at the time:
I wrote:
A difficult choice (for me) this month - in the end, I settled on the Skinhead Box Set, for the nostalgia when I took out the records, the sleevenotes (notwithstanding the photographic error), the music itself, the overall presentation and lastly, the "bravery" in actually releasing this.

Good Points DP.

Could be worse, could be dreary Beatles covers or, heaven forfend, a compilation of two-tone sh*te.

I think I must be out of step with many forum members as the releases I vote for (not my own I hasten to add), get few votes, yet what I consider to be little better than barrel-scraping rubbish (Motor City Box, Marley Covers Box to name a couple) get voted to the near or actual top.
I am just a miserable old git these days and I think I'll start listening to Country & Western - there's always plenty of choice of LPs in every charity shop for me to choose from at my leisure. Razz

DP - as you know I love 69-style reggae - especially your stuff. The quality of ouput on that level has been excellent and the Winston Riley and Tennors set look like Trojan still believe in that product type.

They've still got too much locked up from that time for it to be ignored.

Now I'm staying firmly on the fence with this one - but surely when push comes to shove `the masters' will decide on sales figures rather than a poll - and secondly do they actually watch this forum Question
