Just a heads up for this book . Written by an acquaintance of mine , an interesting look at mainstream clubs back in the 70/80s with time spent in Plymouth, Bristol, Lincoln, Redhill and of course - Brighton!

Worth a read imho

Sounds very interesting. But, I pose this question:

While, I was living in RVA, and LA(not Lower Assendon), there were quite a few clubs, that went out of business.

It seems, lots of businesses, be it pubs, restaurants, or whathaveyou, will sponsor, or hold a genre specific night. This occurred, prior to/during/after the clubs closing.

So, could it be, even though, the night club may be fast, disappearing, something else, is taking its place? Perhaps, more versatile? Or is Western Civilisation, doing what the Roman Empire did, towards its end? Or is something else, completely different, taking place? Smile

Thanks Brian - I should look a bit more into this.

Seth, I expect to be driving through LA (Lower Assendon) sometime in the next week or so...not certain about it...

...also could it be that the UK scene exists by different principles, values and virtues to those in the US?

Just saw your post, Bri. It works, just like mine does. Twice is nice, I reckon! Wink

Have a grand time, doing so. That is a very scenic, area. As for the clubs....I dunno. I have heard folks, who have lived, all over the world, & it seems, the youngins' just ain't into going to clubs, anymore.

Festivals attendance, worldwide, is growing every year. Concert attendance, varies. Apparently, British folks, like concerts, moreso, than festivals. At least, that what Statista, shows:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/282032/music-concert-and-festival-attendance-in-the-uk-by-attendee-type/

That's why I'm wondering if pubs, that say, host a Reggae night, have replaced an outright dancehall, as the atmosphere, is more relaxed.

I do think, there is quite a difference, between the US scene, and the rest of the world.....As for me, I was never into the club scene. I loved going dancing, but it was usually at a restaurant, or pub, that had a large enough space, that you could go in there, shake it, then head back to your table, or the bar.

The clubs were always crawling with drug dealers, and undercover coppers. So most folks, stayed away. Except at Have A Nice Cafe. Those ravers, were already high, on ecstasy, even before they got to the club, to begin with. So, they loved everyone, around them!

Smile
