LC-H has asked me to post the below in here.

I've added a general poll to see how much interest there would be.

Please note the point about albums could only be released where Universal still holds the rights - I suspect we in here would not be party to such information.

As all fans of vintage Jamaican music know, 1969 marked the year Trojan broke into its stride and made its first major impression on the British music industry as a whole and by so doing introduced Reggae to a global audience. Before the year was out, the company had grown from a moderately-sized independent to a major force in the market, with 6 major UK chart successes among its considerable output from those glorious twelve months.

One idea mooted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of this remarkable achievement is a plan to re-release limited edition vinyl reproductions of 25 albums issued by Trojan during this ground-breaking year. The LPs selected are those entirely comprised of recordings to which the company still holds rights.

Only 1,000 copies of each would be manufactured, each being a faithful reproduction of the original '69 pressing and their release would allow fans the opportunity to obtain brand spanking new copies in glorious analogue sound at a fraction of the price of an original copy.

As the core of Trojan's fan base, Universal are looking to you to find out if this is a series on which you would be keen to pick up and the release of some or all of these titles depends purely on your feedback. So please reply to this thread as to which 1969 re-issues you'd snap up if presented the opportunity. Many thanks!

Laurence

Too many to list, but I'd be very interested in dozens of these! Not the big sellers like The Tighten Ups, Red Red Wine etc, but the lesser known ones (You Left Me Standing, No More Heartaches etc...)

What a good idea !
Although a few of these have been re-issued on vinyl previously I'm sure they will sell as long as they are not priced too highly.

The numbers: 1,2,3,11,13,15,17,18 and 20 are of primary interest to me, but that looks a promising list from Laurence. Cool

has Thee LCH any idea on what the price tag would be for something like this?

at Plan 9 in RVA, the Trojan reissue LP's always sold out within a month or 2 and those LP's were sporting 12 to 30 US dollar price tags.

You're quick of the mark with your order Pete. Very Happy
The numbers I would buy are 1,2,3,17 and 20. Some I don't have and others I need a better condition copy at a sensible price. Smile

I'll collate the figures as the days and couple of weeks go by.

However, just because Doc, Brian, Pete and Pete have specified particular albums and others may do likewise, it's no commitment of course.

It will give an idea as to which are the most ppularly-needed albums.
