There's very little reggae right now, 5 Marley albums, 1 Gregory, 1 Jimmy Cliff... And no search facility.

Thanks for the link, Nicholas.

I like the way the albums pop out when you hover over them.

...I just checked, still no sign of the next 7" vinyl release...

How about some nicely cleaned up, properly remastered CD releases and WAV downloads of stuff that has not been released before?

I'm clamoring for CD and WAV/MP3 so that more people have access to the music. I for one dont care about whether its vinyl, CD or MP3.

I dont care about audiophile stuff, I just want more music, something new to discover in the easiest format possible, hopefully with no annoying cracks and pops and shining smiling sound to play in my ipod nano or in my car. I am like most people on Earth, I dont own an auditorium and my stereo sucks big time.

I know I'm a super minority here and that I'm going to get pelted, but to me vinyl is so elitist. Reissues are not even collectors items. Waste of time, money, natural resources, totally cumbersome, not portable, and requiring top notch conditions to tell the minute differences in sound quality... The only reason I'd buy a vinyl would be for the beauty of the object because it can be awesome if done right (but then the issue of money comes into play because them thieves charge an arm and a leg for vinyl nowadays, and it often not even mastered properly). I'd also buy the CD to listen to and rip onto my ipod.

Hey, if they put those out, at least I hope some decent liners with hard to find information will be available.

For us older collectors, vinyl isn't "elitist", it's all there was to collect when we were growing up! Personally, I have many hundreds of CD's as well as my records. I don't have an ipod, and only have a cd player in the car, so have no need of MP3 files...(Although I do have a few discs of them, donated by friends)...
I still buy records (as well as cd's) because I like them. It makes no difference to me whether you or anyone else stores their music digitally or otherwise.
I don't think I own an "auditorium" either, unless that's an alternative name for "living room"!... Smile

I have no problems with vinyl-only, CD-only, MP3/WAV-only folks - to each his own, so long as the music is enjoyed.

I also have no problem with everything-only folk Wink

I think gbougard makes some very good points. Whilst I still really enjoy playing vinyl, these days about 70% of the music I listen to is on my phone or PC. With Trojan having such a massive archive (including as LCH said the other day, 100s of uncatalogued tapes) I think it would be great to make some of it available as WAVs or 320kbps MP3s. I'd be very happy to download high quality tracks at say 1 each with discounts if you buy more. The alternative is that much of the archive will remain unavailable forever. I suppose the obvious problem with making tracks available for download is that they then get copied and start appearing all over the place. Then of course there are the contractual issues to consider. Still, hopefully these aren't insurmountable problems.
On the subject of downloads, I was interested to see on the Universal shop that downloads of some albums are more expensive (sometimes many times more expensive) than the equivalent CDs. I couldn't understand that.

I didn't know that Dave (downloads more expensive than albums)

Difficult to see any justification for that, other than that "they can".

My listening habits are....wait, that's a new topic...

There's 11 CD's being released this spring. What the tracklistings are - dunno.

Which are these, Pete?

Are they on Spectrum or Trojan?

Presumably Trojan. If you click the Twitter logo on the Trojan homepage, you get the last few 'tweets'.

Let's hope so, Pete.

The recent King Tubby set was on Spectrum - I never spotted that and didn't get a promo as it wasn't on Trojan - so I'll check this out and probably buy it.

Well stated. I don't consider vinyl elitist either... Wink

My non-vinyl friends call vinyl "ghetto" as opposed to "elitist"
