Paraphrasing an email that LC-H wrote:
...there's been discussions about reproducing classic Trojan artwork for wall decorations and with this in mind, could you possibly ask forum members what sort they'd prefer (square poster on high quality paper or square canvas)?

Some idea of what would be considered a reasonable price would also be welcome...
By "discussions", I assume this means within Universal.

Just thinking about it myself, I'd slightly prefer a canvas over a poster, I assume a canvas means that there'd be some kind of border underneath the canvas, i.e something like the blank canvasses one can buy from art shops.

Personally a life-size or slightly larger canvas print (assuming a border) of a classic L.P., whether it's an iconic Tighten Up cover, the interesting Psychedelic Train, Engine 54 or whatever, I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of those on my walls at home

Posters are fine-ish and would be cheaper (I suppose), but unless these were substantially larger than the co ver they represent, to my eyes, they won't have the same effect.

Plus, they would surely be posted rolled up - which is an irritation to flatten.

As to prices, I'd pay up to 8 quid (plus postage) for an enlarged (say 50cm x 50cm) poster and towards 15 (plus postage) for a (say) 40cm x 40cm canvas.

Having said that, I'd be more likely to buy a canvas, although I wouldn't want more than 2 or 3 different ones.

Having rattled on, I don't which albums might be considered - this may just be at the discussion-only stage so far - and of course, may not get off the ground at all.

A couple of examples - off the top of my head and not necessarily what I'd choose, though I might Wink

I think it's good that we (the "men in the street") are being asked our opinions.

What do you good folk think about the idea, style and cost etc.?

...and regarding price, the phrase "as cheap as possible" doesn't help Mr. Green

The days of me putting up posters passed 30 years ago!! So, a canvas would be the only option for me. Any of the (tasteful) classic albums would be nice.... I think Joe's estimate of about 15 quid sounds reasonable. Hopefully they'll sort out the multiple postage discount before issuing them! It still costs 4 quid to buy 2 of their 45's each time!! Not good... Mad

Thanks Pete - I suppose my "underlying message" was that I'm also a bit old for posters - though I never really bothered much with them anyway, if truth be known Wink

I'm looking forward to knowing what others think...

Like Pete, I haven't put up posters for years.

Trojan had some top covers didn't they? The ones recently discussed over at Pama were all excellent - Dynamites, Crystalites, Upsetters, etc.

I like Club Reggae Vol 2 myself.... Also, The Reggae Chartbusters Volumes 1 & 2 would be worth considering.

I think we can discount the polka dot Rebel Music one however! Mr. Green

I might be interested in some posters if the price is right. Not for home but to frame and display at our monthly club night.

I think square, unframed canvasses of classic LP covers is a good idea. This would be my choice

Probably my favourite cover of all time whatever the music

Mine too Pete Smile I remember walking by there back in `72 - just to the right of the chap you can see in the white coat is the entrance to Granville Arcade and ten spits down from there (on whatever 'Avenue' it was) was Muzik City first then Joe's Shack. Music Box, where I got most of my 45s, was also in there on the left.

So...up to now, canvas is preferred?

Any others (Pete's commented on the 15 mark) have any views on a reasonable price?

...also I suppose size of poster/canvas would be a consideration -be good to know what the views are on that as well.

Personally, I'd prefer them to not be too large, say 12" x 12" (album size). Reminds me of the old days!

Yes, Andy - imagine even a 2ft x 2ft (60cm x 60cm). That would probably be a bit visually overwhelming, could be difficult to find a place to hang it and would certainly attract detrimental comments from the household "nay sayers" (sometimes the wife, almost always, the kids - sometimes everyone)

...though I thought album size slightly small...

I don't somehow think my wife would appreciate a 2ft x 2ft poster of Tighten Up vol. 2 in our living room! Laughing

Yes, but:

1) Who pays the mortgage?
2) The wife shouldn't be in the living room....her place is in the kitchen and scullery Mr. Green
